Battery Recycling

Solid Waste Services offers various options for household battery recycling. SWS has partnered with County libraries for the Library Battery Recycling Programme. From the start of the programme in 2007 to the end of 2014, we have diverted 31,157.33 kg. of batteries from landfill.

County residents can drop their alkaline batteries (up to D size) into the top of Battery Tubes, located in all 14 Wellington County Library Branches. There is no charge to participate. The collected batteries will be recycled to make steel. You may also take alkaline batteries to Household Hazardous Waste Event Days and Select Household Hazardous Waste Depots.   More options on disposal locations are available on the Make The Drop website.
