If you, or someone you know, would enjoy any of the following volunteer roles, please contact Mary Black at 519.846.5359 x 7266, or

Dining Room Assistance

We are looking for volunteer assistance in our resident dining rooms for all weekend and evening meals. In this role, you would be assisting residents who can no longer assist themselves at meal time. This shift would consist of 1.5 hours any evening between 5pm and 6:30pm, or any weekend meal (8am to 9:30am, 12pm to 1:30pm or 5pm to 6:30pm).

One to One Visiting

Some of our residents would greatly benefit from one to one conversational visits, one to one games, and strolls outside in the nice weather.

Musical Entertainment

For our small and large group special events and theme programmes, we are always looking for volunteers who enjoy playing an instrument or singing for our residents.

No One Dies Alone Programme

This role supports our residents who are palliative - at the end stage of life - by sitting with them, and perhaps their loved ones, so that they are not alone at this time.

Sunday Chapel Service Assistance

We are looking for volunteers to assist our Recreation Staff every Sunday from 1:30 to 3:00pm, to bring residents to and from the Sunday church service.

Summer Grill Dining Club

We are looking for volunteers to assist our Recreation Staff every Wednesday evening from 4:30 to 6:30pm, to bring to serve and assist with a BBQ meal with a small group of residents.

Hair Salon Support

We are looking for volunteers to assist our Hairdressers by bringing residents to and from the hair salon located here in our Home; day and time will vary on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.

Happy Hour Support

Helping the Birch Dale team with a social gathering that happens every day from 3:15 to 4:15pm. This will involve bringing residents to the dining room, socializing, supporting a program, and assisting them with their snack. You could pick one day a week or every other week if you like!

Van Driver

This is an occasional position that varies in day, time and length of shift.  Our residents may have appointments scheduled out in the community and require a ride to and from the appointment. We have an accessible van that we can provide for this transportation; we are looking for volunteers who are 25 years of age or older, can provide a clean driving abstract and liability insurance, and are comfortable and confident in their driving skills. There is always a volunteer escort to accompany the volunteer and resident as well.

Biking Buddies and Golf Cart Ride Support

From May until October we have Duet Bikes that volunteers can take individual residents out for rides throughout the grounds and the Cataract Trail. We also have a 6-seater golf cart that our Recreation Staff drive, and they appreciate volunteers accompanying the residents during the ride

Our Staff Gardener appreciates volunteer support in preparing and maintaining our multiple garden areas throughout the Home.
