The County of Wellington is a property owner and landlord for social and affordable housing located in Wellington and Guelph area. As a landlord, we are responsible for 1,244 rental housing units, pursuant to the Housing Services Act, 2011, and Directive 2012-01 in its role as a Housing Provider. The County as landlord provides rent-geared-to income subsidies for eligible tenants. The County also provides below average market rents (20% below) to 55 units of the 1, 244 rental housing units.
The County has an administrative role for Rent Supplement and Housing Allowances, pursuant to the Housing Services Act, 2011 and various administrative agreements and funded initiatives. Rent Supplement and Housing Allowances subsidies are paid directly to participating and eligible landlords for eligible applicants in eligible units. The amount of subsidy offsets the market rent for the units. The subsidy may be either rent-geared- to-income or a housing allowance averaging $250 per unit per month.
For tenants in County-owned housing, we provide various services including tenant relations, rent collection, maintenance and capital repairs, and move-ins and move-outs.
