From Archives to Armchairs: Local History Authors Series

Posted On Tuesday November 12, 2019

ABOYNE – The Wellington County Archives is thrilled to present Part III of their local history author’s series, ‘From Archives to Armchairs’, with first time author Jim Henderson. The upcoming session will be held on Sunday, November 24, at 2:00 pm, where Henderson will be discussing his recent publication, “Before Their Endeavours Fade”, a tribute to the men from Palmerston and area who served their country and sacrificed their lives during the two World Wars and the Korean conflict.

Henderson grew up in Palmerston where his father Ken Henderson was a funeral director, ambulance operator and a business man.  From his father, Jim learned about the names on the Palmerston Cenotaph as his father had grown up with many of these men.  Over roughly 35 years, Henderson researched these men through family interviews, personal stories and military records. Jim gained more information through a 15-year career organizing and leading Canadian battlefield tours to Europe, including cemeteries where the fallen are buried. He spent a full two years writing the manuscript and another six months editing his book. Copies of this book will be available for sale and signing at the event.

While the ‘From Archives to Armchairs’ series concludes on November 24th, individuals are invited to visit the Archives to be inspired by a wealth of research material for their next book, no matter the genre. Admission to this event is by donation.
