A Peek Behind the Curtain - Puppets Elora Exhibit at Wellington County Museum and Archives

Posted On Friday January 11, 2019

ABOYNE - In celebration of Puppets Elora’s 25th anniversary, the Wellington County Museum and Archives’ newest exhibit, A Peek Behind the Curtain, highlights the performing arts of Elora puppetry. Come experience puppets first hand at the museum!

“This exhibit is fun for the whole family,” says Amy Dunlop, curator of the exhibit. “Through puppet shows, demonstrations, and interactive elements within the exhibition visitors are encouraged to play, perform and experience the art of puppetry in Wellington County.”

Since 1995, Puppets Elora has used traditional puppetry to bring affordable theatre to children in Wellington County and beyond. They base their plays on folk and fairy tales from around the world. Members design and build beautifully sculpted hand puppets, props and scenery.

“This puppetry exhibit is likely the only one in Ontario or even Canada,” says Annerose Schmidt, coordinator of Puppets Elora. “In this exhibit we show how puppets are built and how they come to life.”

Please join us at the Museum for the exhibit opening reception on Saturday, January 19 from 2:00 to 4:00 pm. Food and refreshments will be provided. Everyone is welcome!

Wellington County Museum and Archives is located on Wellington Road 18 between Fergus and Elora. The exhibit is open until March 31, 2019. Galleries are open weekdays from 9:30 am to 4:30 pm and on weekends from 1:00 to 5:00 pm. Admission is by donation.
