County of Wellington Officially Opens New Wellington Place Child Care and Learning Centre

ABOYNE, ON -  The County of Wellington officially opened the new Wellington Place Child Care and Learning Centre in Aboyne this morning. The brand new 6,200 square foot facility is located at on the Wellington Place Campus behind the Centre Wellington OPP Operations Centre and adjacent to Wellington Terrace Long Term Care Home.

Designed by the award winning +VG architectural firm, the new $3.7 million dollar child care and learning centre was made possible by capital funds from the Ministry of Education and the County of Wellington, and accommodates 64 children from birth to four years of age.

“The County of Wellington is extremely excited to open the doors to new Wellington Place Child Care and Learning Centre,” said Warden Kelly Linton. “This beautiful, fully inclusive centre will support children during their developmental years."

“In keeping with the County of Wellington’s commitment to improving the environment, the Centre was built to the Emerald Level of Certification of the Green Legacy Building Construction Standards,” said David Anderson, Chair of the Social Services Committee.  “It is the County’s highest standard, ensuring it is environmentally-friendly with sustainable features that will also reduce overall energy consumption.”

Every aspect of this fully accessible building has been designed to support children’s healthy development and early childhood education. Additional features of the Centre include:

  • Convenient and safe drop off and pick up area
  • Large windows
  • Four activity rooms
  • Secure outdoor play areas for each age group designed to emphasize connections with nature
  • Fully equipped kitchen for providing healthy meals and snacks
  • Family meeting room
  • The programme is fully inclusive for children with special needs and disabilities

“Like many communities, the Township of Centre Wellington also has a significant shortfall of full-time, full year licensed child care spaces for children ages birth to four years,” said Luisa Artuso, Director of Children’s Early Years Division.  “This new Centre will serve all County residents, is centrally located, and is close to a number of cultural, scenic and educational amenities, which will greatly enhance the early learning experience.”

The hours of operation for the Centre are 6:30 am – 6:00 pm from Monday to Friday.
