We sincerely thank all our participants in the Survey.

Since 2015 Wellington County has been promoting itself as a place to live and work through its Global Talent Attraction Initiative. The County feels strongly about helping to establish a community where all residents embrace and celebrate the diversity of the whole community, resulting in newcomers feeling welcome, valued and respected to participate in the social, cultural and economic life of the community.

As rural based communities, attracting and retaining newcomers is critical for continued economic growth and development. Attracting newcomers to our region will enable the opportunity to utilize a diverse pool of skilled workers, that will in turn help fuel the economy and offset unfavorable populations trends which have influenced increased labour shortages. However, it is widely recognized that newcomers, especially new immigrants, will not come if communities are not welcoming to them.

As a result of this, on July 6, 2021 the County launched the data collection phase of the Welcoming and Inclusion Assessment Survey to understand how welcoming and inclusive Wellington County communities are to newcomers. The results of the Survey will help our talent attraction initiatives as well as efforts by businesses to solve labour shortage challenges.

Welcoming and Inclusion Assessment Survey

This Survey was open for one month with the use of three data collection tools:

  1. Newcomer and Resident Survey Questionnaire
  2. Businesses and Organizations Survey Questionnaire
  3. Interview Survey

During data collection we received responses from 109 newcomers, 224 long term residents and 67 from businesses and organizations. The project team is currently analyzing the data and looks forward to sharing the results once the project is completed.

The Economic Development Division would like to sincerely thank everyone who participated in the survey.
