Supporting Local Businesses during COVID-19
We are thankful to our local farms and food business that continue to supply us with locally grown and prepared foods. If you are looking for ways to support local businesses and your community at this time, here are a few helpful tips to get inspired and keep you and business owners/staff safe.
Find local Farm and Food Businesses
- Continuously check updates and recommendations from Guelph Wellington Dufferin Public Health.
- As per direction by Public Health, everyone entering a local business is required to wear a mask. Learn more about face coverings.
- Always stay safe – wash your hands with soap and/or use hand sanitizer.
- Avoid crowds, choose online /phone pre-ordering options, opt for delivery or curb-side pick-up whenever possible and follow instructions outlined by business owners.
- Always check before going - many businesses regularly update information regarding hours and purchasing arrangements on their social media pages.
- Check with family, friends, and neighbours who are in self-isolation or cannot safely leave their homes in case they need anything.
- Purchase gift cards from local businesses to show your support - they make great gifts, too.
- Enjoy a cold one or get your cocktails on - local breweries, distilleries and cidery shops are open, some offer delivery. View our Sip and Savour page.
- The local farmers’ market season has begun. See which markets are open and how you can purchase from them. Learn more here.
- Consider donating to emergency food suppliers to help families in need. Please note some are only accepting financial donations at this point – check directly with individual organizations.
- There’s never been a better time to upgrade your food skills. Check our calendar featuring online cooking classes, check the social media feeds of local food instructors or find inspiration by going through your stack of cookbooks.
- Get your kids involved in cooking and food gardening.
- Sign up for a CSA farm share and get your weekly vegetable box or support other local food boxes.
Thank you for supporting local Wellington County and Guelph businesses!
