Camp at the Museum!

Welcome to Camp! The Wellington County Museum and Archives offers both PD Day Camp and Summer Camp that encourages campers to learn while having fun building crafts, exploring experiments, and playing games.

The Wellington County Museum and Archives offers pre-registration programmes throughout the school year and summer months. The PD Day Camp days are based on the Upper Grand District School Board calendar. We hold Summer Day Camp one week in each month of the summer, one in July and one in August.

All camp programming is designed and offered to children from ages of 6 – 10.

Camp is based on a first come, first served basis and participation cannot be confirmed until after a registration form is completed and payment is received.

Summer Camp 2023 registrations open March 1, 2023. See below for this Summer's weekly camp themes.

Summer Camp 2023!

(Registrations open March 1, 2023)

July 10 – 14: A Dino-mite Trip

It’s time to put on your best Paleontologist hat because it is the age of the dinosaurs! Explore the different eras that the dinosaurs ruled over the planet. What types of habitats could they have lived in, what did they eat, how many of them had feathers? Discover all this and more on a dino-mite trip.

July 17 – 21: Crazy Construction

Get the creative mind moving as we build and create our very own structures, cities, mazes, and beyond. Investigate what materials from the natural world and the Camper closet we can use to make things stronger, lighter, make them fly or float. It’s time to get messy and experiment our way through this crazy construction.

July 24 – 28: Treasure Hunters

Have you ever wondered what is going on behind the scenes at a museum? During this week at camp, participants will spend the week exploring the museum and all of it’s secrets as they design, create and showcase their very own pop-up exhibit at the museum. Bring history to life by becoming new Treasure Hunters!

August 8 – 11 (short week): The “Magic” of Camp

Who doesn’t like a little magic in their life? In this shortened week of camp, Campers will learn how magicians do their tricks and how to do them themselves. Create your own magician persona, find a costume, and create your own act. Along the way, you may even meet a trained magician or two!

August 14 – 18: Ancient Worlds

It’s time to discovery worlds from history and imagination in this week’s camp. What types of food did they eat, what games did they play, what stories did they tell? All these questions and more will be learned through various activities and play. Perhaps you may even have the chance to build your very own ancient world!

August 21 – 25: CSI Boot Camp

The museum is in chaos! There is a priceless artefact missing and it is up to this week’s Campers to find evidence, sift through red herrings, interview suspects, and find the culprit. What does it take to solve such a crime? Come to camp, learn the skills, and become Jr. Detectives as you go through CSI Boot Camp!
