What's Happening at the Wellington County Museum and Archives?

We are constantly changing and each visit you make to the Museum is a unique experience. Use this page to find out what has changed here since your last visit and what exciting new events are coming up!

 

March Break Mayhem! March 11th - 15th 2019

We've got a new theme for each day of the March Break!  Join us each afternoon from 1:00-4:00pm for crafts, activities, shows, games and more!  Admission is by donation.

Monday March 11th Medieval Times! Calling all knights and ladies! The Castle on the Hill needs your help!  Knight training, medieval crafts, food,  games and activities all afternoon!

  • Special "Punch and Judy' puppet show by Studio Babette at 2pm. Suitable for all ages. Included with admission.

Tuesday March 12th  Fun at the Circus! Come on in and step right up!  We're running away and joining the circus!  Carnival games, crafts and activities all afternoon, even try your hand at walking on a tight rope! 

Wednesday March 13th All Things Water! Nothing could be "Grand"er!  Drink down all the amazing and fun activities happening this afternoon.  Build an edible aquifer, even test out a water dam with the help of the GRCA!  We're all wet this afternoon (and that's a good thing!)

  • Special puppet show preformance of "Wish Fish" by Puppets Elora at 2pm. Suitable for all ages. Included with admission

Thursday March 14th Lacrosse with the Elora Mohawks! Your Elora Mohawks are the 2018 Founders Cup Champions!  We couldn't be prouder.  Please join us on this special day to celebrate with the boys in style!  We are going to have a number of special events this day to celebrate their great achievment:

  • Meet and Greet autograph session with members of the team at 2pm!
  • Get your picture taken with the Founders Cup!
  • Lacrosse skills competitions with the Mohawks all afternoon!
    • Hardest shot competitions
    • Face off challenges
    • Accuracy shooting
    • and more!
  • If you're new to the sport or an expert we've got something fun for the whole family!

Friday March 15th Reduce, Reuse, Recycle! One man's junk is another man's puppet! Join us and the Solid Waste Services crew as we bring waste back to life.  Check out some of the machinery that goes into removing our garbage and learn where all that trash goes.  Also help us recycle some junk into beautiful treasures!  A great day for those who love machinery and being creative!  

  • Special puppet show preformance of "No Puppets, No Problem!" by Puppets Elora at 2pm. Suitable for all ages. Included with admission.

 

PD Day Camps at the WCMA!

No school, no problem! The Wellington County Museum has you covered! This Feb 1st join us for a day of wintery fun.  We will be having a blast snowshoeing, tobogganing, snow painting, creating winter crafts and playing indoor games!

  • Ages: 7-10
  • Cost: $50.00 or $40.00 for WCMA members.

  • Time: 9:00 am to 4:00 pm

Festival of Lights - A focus on celebrations around the world and how heritage is passed through community celebrations such as St Nicholas Day, Eid al-Fitr, Hannukkah and the Festival of the Three Kings among others (celebrations change each year). Activities include stories, games, a festive treat and a take home craft.

 

Cultures of the County - Modern Wellington County was built by various communities and traditions. Students will look at four diverse groups and how they helped to shape the County we live in today. The Attawandaron First Nation, Black Canadian settlement of the Queens Bush, Scottish, and Dutch cultures will all be celebrated for how they helped develop our modern Canada.

 

Christmas Traditions in Canada - Christmas traditions in Canada are found among diverse groups and have changed over time. Students will make a festive treat, a take home gift, and participate in some of the cultural traditions that have gone into the creation of the modern Canadian Christmas.
