Shand Dam: The Taming of the Grand

June 4, 2017 to January 28, 2018

The building of the Shand Dam put an end to the severe floods, droughts, and water pollution that had plagued communities along the Grand River for generations. Opening to great fanfare in 1942, the Shand Dam was the first flood control and water conservation dam ever built in Canada.

Opening 4 June 2017, Shand Dam: The Taming of the Grand explores the construction of the dam through photographs, film and original newspaper coverage presented in a unique scrapbook-style exhibit.
