Battery Recycling

Solid Waste Services offers various options for household battery recycling. SWS has partnered with County libraries for the Library Battery Recycling Programme. From the start of the programme in 2007 to the end of 2015, we have diverted more than 34 tonnes of batteries from landfill.

County residents can drop their alkaline batteries (up to D size) into the top of Battery Tubes, located in all 14 Wellington County Library Branches. There is no charge to participate. The collected batteries will be recycled to make steel. You may also take alkaline batteries to the Mobile HHW Depot and Select Household Hazardous Waste Depots.  More options on disposal locations are available on the Make The Drop website.
