Hazardous Waste Depots

All County waste facilities remain open with their regular operating hours. Enhanced safety protocols are in effect. Reuse Centres remain closed until further notice.

The health and safety of the public and staff is the top priority at County waste facilities. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we collectively work through this challenging period together.

Questions? Please contact Solid Waste Services at 519.837.2601 or wasteinfo@wellington.ca.

Please use curbside collection services for regular household waste.
Although all County waste facilities remain open with their regular operating hours, residents are encouraged to continue using the curbside collection service for regular household waste. Trips to waste facilities should be reserved for the disposal of items/materials that cannot be managed through curbside collection services.
Follow these enhanced safety protocols at waste facilities.

The following enhanced safety protocols at waste facilities remain in effect:

  • Please use credit or debit for payment, preferably the tap function.
  • Maintain physical distancing, and be expedient on site.
  • The use of masks or face (mouth/nose) coverings is strongly encouraged.
  • As always, follow staff directions.

Permanent Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) depots are located at five County waste facilities; Aberfoyle, Belwood, Elora, Harriston, and Riverstown. They are open year-round during operating hours - see Hours, Maps, Locations.

The ONLY materials accepted at these depots are:

  • Automotive motor oil (maximum 25 litres per day)
  • Automotive oil filters (maximum 5 filters per day)
  • Automotive antifreeze (maximum 25 litres per day)
  • Automotive motor oil and antifreeze plastic containers
  • Automotive batteries (maximum 4 batteries per day)
  • Household batteries (separate rechargeable from single-use batteries, place in a clear sealable plastic bag)
  • Aerosol cans (empty or containing product)
  • Propane cylinders (no larger than 30 lb. tanks)

There is no charge for this service. Simply register your drop-off of materials with the site attendant. Follow the attendant's instructions for placement of material.

Hazardous wastes generated by the Industrial, Commercial, Institutional (IC&I) and Agricultural sectors can not be accepted. For information on proper disposal requirements, contact the Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks (MECP) at 1-800-565-4923, or MECP licensed hazardous waste carriers/haulers (listed in telephone books under headings such as Liquid Waste Removal and Waste Management).

If you live on a farm, only the HHW materials generated from the household can be accepted.

More options on disposal locations are available on the Resource Productivity & Recovery Authority website.
