Volunteer Services offers a wide variety of opportunities for individuals and students of Wellington County. Volunteers help residents maintain as active, independent and high quality of life as possible by augmenting and complementing services provided by the staff of the home through a wide range of volunteer initiatives. Volunteer today at Wellington Terrace, and you can:

Volunteer Roles

Biking Buddy Volunteer Role

  • Volunteers can be 18 years or older
  • Volunteers are trained and orientated on the DUET bicycles by Recreation Staff
  • Volunteers are then paired up with a small group of residents from a specific neighbourhood
  • Time commitment is anytime between April and October, 1 to 2 hours a week (flexible)

Bingo Assistant Volunteer Role

  • Volunteers can be 14 years or older
  • Volunteers are trained and orientated by Recreation Therapists
  • Time commitment is 1.5 to 2 hours a week, day and time varies

Bowling Assistant Volunteer Role

  • Volunteers can be 14 years or older
  • Volunteers are trained and orientated by Recreation Therapists
  • Time commitment is 1.5 to 2 hours a week, day and time varies

Campus Golf Cart Volunteer Role

  • Volunteers can be 16 years or older
  • Volunteers are trained and orientated by Recreation Therapists
  • Volunteers always accompany the Recreation Therapists in this program and are not responsible for driving the cart
  • Time commitment is 1.5 to 2 hours a week, day and time varies

Dining Room Assistant Volunteer Role

  • Volunteers can be 16 years or older
  • Volunteers watch a video about assisting residents, and complete a quiz
  • Volunteers are trained and orientated by Life Enrichment Staff
  • Time commitment is 1 to 1.5 hours a week, day and time varies

Games Volunteer Role

  • Volunteers can be 16 years or older
  • Volunteers are trained and orientated by Recreation Therapists
  • Time commitment is 1 to 1.5 hours a week, day and time varies

Manicure Volunteer Role

  • Volunteers can be 16 years or older
  • Volunteers are trained and orientated by Recreation Therapists
  • Time commitment is 1 to 1.5 hours a week, day and time can be flexible

Bus Outings Volunteer Role

  • Volunteers can be 16 years or older
  • Volunteers are trained and orientated by Recreation Therapists
  • Time commitment varies, depends on the destination of the outing

Pet Therapy Volunteer Role

  • Volunteers can be 18 years or older
  • Volunteers are encouraged to contact St. John's Pet Therapy programme to complete the training for pet therapy through their programme
  • Volunteers are provided a general orientation by the Volunteer Services Coordinator
  • Time commitment is 1 to 1.5 hours a week, day and time flexible

General Programme Assistant Volunteer Role

  • Volunteers can be 14 years or older
  • Volunteers are trained and orientated by Recreation Therapists
  • Time commitment varies, depending on special event or programme

Spiritual Programme Assistance Role

  • Volunteers can be 14 years or older
  • Volunteers are trained and orientated by Recreation Therapists
  • Time commitment is 1.5 to 2 hours a week, Tuesdays or Sundays

Van Driver Volunteer Role

  • Volunteers can be 25 years or older
  • Volunteers will provide individual transportation services with the Wellington Terrace accessible van for resident appointments and functions
  • Volunteers will possess a valid Ontario Driver's License, clean driving record and current auto insurance with at least $1,000,000.00 liability
  • Volunteers are trained and orientated by Recreation Staff
  • Time commitment varies due to resident appointment/event

Visiting Volunteer Role

  • Volunteers can be 14 years or older
  • Volunteers are trained and orientated by Life Enrichment Staff
  • Time commitment is 1 to 1.5 hours a week, day and time varies

Volunteer Entertainer

  • volunteers can be 16 years or older
  • time commitment varies depending on the request
