Enhanced Support System

As part of the Special Needs Resourcing mandate, the County of Wellington’s Enhanced Support System provides supports to ensure children with medical conditions, special needs and/or developmental delays are able to fully participate in Child Care programmes. It is based on the foundation that child care and early learning educators take the lead in meeting the needs of children in their programme and partnering with parents to monitor their child’s development.

It sees child care and early learning educators as skilled professionals who seek to build their capacity through professional learning and accessing resources that will support their programme to meet the needs of all children in a holistic manner.

To support child care and early learning educators, the County of Wellington contracts community agencies to provide training, general consultation and child specific supports as educators design the child care environment to meet the specific needs of the child and/or make referrals when necessary. A key part of the Enhanced Support System model is ongoing training and professional development for child care and early learning educators.

Visit the EYPRC Professional Learning page for current learning and training opportunities, or complete the In-programme Professional Learning request form for your specific programme needs.

A variety of Enhanced Support System partners are available to offer general consultation as educators consider the needs of the child care environment.
