Pedagogical Mentorship is available to child care and early learning educators working in the City of Guelph and County of Wellington.
Guided by How Does Learning Happen? Ontario’s Pedagogy for the Early Years, the Pedagogical Leaders work alongside individual child care and early learning educators and teams to promote practices that are responsive to the needs of the programme, and that support the learning that occurs through the relationships between children, educators, families and environments. Pedagogical Leaders work within this context of relationships, and seek to understand how relationships are formed and strengthened by the materials, the environments, the daily schedules, the interactions and the engagements within the community.

Principle 1: Positive experiences in early childhood set the foundation for lifelong learning, behaviour, health, and well-being.
Principle 2: Partnerships with families and communities are essential.
Principle 3: Respect for diversity, equity, and inclusion is vital.
Principle 4: An intentional, planned program supports learning.
Principle 5: Play and inquiry are learning approaches that capitalize on children’s natural curiosity and exuberance.
Principle 6: Knowledgeable, responsive, and reflective educators are essential.
Within this collaborative partnership with child care and early learning educators, the Pedagogical Leaders use a strength-based approach that seeks to honour the knowledge and capacity that already exists amongst teams. Pedagogical leaders engage in deep listening and use reflective practice to create opportunities to think together in ways that support pedagogical practices. The Pedagogical Leaders also model the importance of community partnerships in supporting professional practice, which might include offering information on accessing community resources, supports, and using guiding documents (Child Care and Early Years Act, 2014, How Does Learning Happen? Ontario’s Pedagogy for the Early Years, and the College of Early Childhood Educators Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice) to support reflective practice.
