Employment Supports and Benefits
There are many employment benefits and supports available to support individuals who are receiving Ontario Works. Our caseworkers work closely with participants to develop individualized action plans that address their unique needs. An action plan may include a number of different steps; caseworkers guide participants through each stage and encourage them to stay on track.
Employment supports that are available to assist Ontario Works participants include:
- Basic educational upgrading
- English as a second language training
- Job specific skills training
- Job search assistance such as résumé writing and interview preparation
- Volunteer and employment placement assistance
The Ontario Works office also offers specific programmes to support the unique needs of clients.
- If you're a young parent between the ages of 16 and 25, here's your chance to leap ahead to success with our Learning, Earning and Parenting (LEAP) programme.
- If you're interested in operating your own business you may be able to access training and supports through our Self-Employment programme. This programme is delivered in partnership with Business Centre Guelph-Wellington.
- Ontario Works also offers a life skills case management programme that provides intensive support to Ontario Works clients who are experiencing issues related to addictions or mental health.
In addition to employment supports, the Ontario Works office provides participants with a number of employment benefits to assist them in finding and starting a job. We may be able to assist with costs such as transportation, childcare, course fees, uniforms and safety equipment.
