Ontario's berry season may be short, but it is SO delicious!
Berries are seasonally available at your local farmers' markets, farm gate locations, or at a variety of U-Pick locations throughout Wellington County. Mark your calendars as berry picking is a great way to experience the benefits of family farm fresh - something you don't want to miss!
Tips to make the most out of Ontario's berry season
- When berry picking, go in the morning to avoid the afternoon heat of the day. Berries become softer when exposed to the hot sun.
- Store fresh berries in the refrigerator with hulls intact, unwashed, and lightly covered in a single layer. Use within three to six days.
- Pre-wash, dry, and store berries in a freezer bag for up to a year.
- Turn berries into preserves, jam, or jelly - or eat them right away! Who can resist fresh, local fruit?
