All households in the County receive weekly green bin collection for organic waste, which is biodegradable plant or animal waste. The organic waste that is collected from your home is diverted from landfills, and turned into compost.
When disposing of organic waste:
- Use a kitchen catcher bucket on your counter or under your sink to collect organic waste
- Place your waste either loose in your green bin, or with an acceptable paper or BPI certified compostable liner
- Ensure each green bin does not exceed 18 kg (40 lbs) or they will not be collected
- On your collection day, place your green bin curbside within 3 feet of the curb

Does it Belong?
Have a broken green bin?
Take your broken green bin to any County waste facility to be exchanged for a new one for free. The broken green bin will be recycled.
My green bin wasn't collected, what should I do?
Collection crews place stickers on uncollected green bins to explain the main reasons for materials being left behind. If you are still unclear as to why your materials were left behind, please contact us.
Your green bin will not be collected if it weighs over 18 kg (40 lbs) or contains unacceptable items such as plastic bags, pet waste, or yard waste.
