Through the Municipal Act, the Province of Ontario delegates the County of Wellington the authority to set its remuneration. In 2024, Council established the following remuneration and benefits for its members at:
Warden $147,521
Councillor $47,098
Benefits provided to Council include:
- Extended Health Benefits
- Dental Benefits
- Mileage Reimbursement
The remuneration for the Warden and Members of Council is adjusted each year by the same percentage increase received by the County's non-union staff. Council may review and make changes to the remuneration during the yearly budgeting process.
The Province of Ontario through the Municipal Act requires the Treasurer of the County of Wellington to file with Council by March 31 a statement of total remuneration and expenses paid in the previous year.
Council has established a policy that governs what expenses are eligible to be claimed by members of Council. A budget is approved each year for Council as a whole to attend conferences, municipal meetings and training sessions related to their role as members of Council along with associated costs for transportation, accommodation, meals, and hospitality (limited to meals). Receipts must be provided for reimbursement of expenses.
The Treasurer's report is made public and posted on the County's website.
