Getting Here:

Maltby Rd and Wellington Rd 34 are temporarily closed at the Hanlon Expressway. If coming from the south / east: Use the overpass accessed from Concession 7 to cross over the Hanlon, then travel west on WR 34 to Wellington Rd 35. Take WR 35 north, turning east Concession 4. 

If coming from the north: Use Downey Rd (WR 35) to access Concession 4. Access to Concession 4 from the Hanlon (HWY 6 south) is closed.

Getting Here:

Wellington Rd 19 is a continuation of Garafraxa Street from Fergus. Site is between Fifth and Sixth Line (closer to Sixth on South side). From the west, drive past Fifth Line and watch for site on the right side. From the east, drive through Belwood past the Sixth Line - site is on left side.

Site is on Gerrie Rd, west of Beatty Line, East of Irvine - just North of Colborne Street. Take Wellington Rd 18 (North side of river) to Gerrie Rd. Turn right if driving west - left if driving east. Site is on right just past the stop sign.

Site is approximately 1 km south of Highway 23 and County Rd 87 intersection, and just North of Sideroad 7. From Palmerston, go North on Highway 23, (formerly 89). From Harriston, go south on Highway 23.

From Highway 6, drive to Sideroad Rd 5 W. (Turn left if driving north, right if driving south - at Quality Homes). Site is on right side.

Getting here:

Site is on County Rd 7, West of Sideroad 15. From Drayton, take County Rd 11 to County Rd 7 and turn left. Site is on right side heading north.

The minimum user fee is part of the County’s Solid Waste Services (SWS) Strategy.

Using the curbside collection programme that residents already pay for creates more space at our transfer stations. This additional space supports more material diversion, which reduces the amount of waste that ends up in our landfill. Within the first months of this adjustment SWS projected adding 3 more years of operation to our landfill.

The minimum fee offsets some of our costs for operating the sites. A minimum waste fee is a common fee that most municipalities utilize.  Some minimum fees are as high as $20. 

Some materials are exempt from the $10.00 minimum fee, including:

• Household Hazardous Waste
• Tires
• Electronic Waste
• Residential Leaf and Yard Waste (April through November)
• Clothing and Textiles

Even if your garbage is contained in a yellow Wellington County collection bag, you will still be subject to the $10.00 minimum fee when disposing of it at a waste facility. We encourage residents to use the curbside collection service, where there is no additional fee for collecting yellow bags.

The minimum fee encourages residents to use the curbside collection programme, which is a more convenient and cost-effective way to manage regular household waste. 

The $10.00 fee is a minimum charge, so even if the waste you are dropping off would typically cost less than $10.00 to dispose of, the full minimum fee will apply. 

For smaller amounts of waste, curbside collection is a more economical option.

Yes! In fact, the County’s goal is to divert more large materials like mattresses, drywall, and asphalt shingles from the landfill by recycling them. With more residents using curbside collection for smaller waste, facilities can dedicate more space to handling these larger, non-curbside items.

The curbside collection programme is a convenient and cost-effective option for managing household waste and recycling. By using curbside services, you avoid the waste facility’s minimum fee and contribute to the County’s waste diversion goals.

To avoid animals getting into your bags, place your bags in garbage cans. 

The Solid Waste Services team will replace any defective bags that you purchased. Contact us to let us know. 

Any time we are aware of any Wellington County garbage bag quality issues we address them with our manufacturer.

Animals are attracted to food sources left in garbage bags. Most items that would attract animals simply need to be diverted to your green bin, and food packaging given a rinse.

Yellow user-pay garbage bags are allowed to be placed in a garbage cans - one bag per can. 

Customers entering our facilities do so at their own risk. For the safety of themselves and others, customers must:

• obey the road signs and directions of site attendants
• declare any select Household Hazardous Waste or tires for disposal
• ensure children under 12 years of age do not exit the vehicle or unload waste
• ensure animals do not exit the vehicle
• ensure load is secure

Waste facilities operate under Environmental Compliance Approval (ECA), Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks (MECP) regulations and County Disposal By-law 5450-15. The ECA details legal obligations that facility owners must comply with in daily operations.

Attendants have the authority to:

• inspect loads
• refuse loads
• redirect loads
• ask for proof that materials are generated within Wellington County (excludes City of Guelph)

Waste that must be separated includes:

• appliances
• Blue Box materials
• electronics
• scrap metal
• textiles
• tires
• wood and brush

Other rules/regulations:

• Scavenging is not permitted
• Liquids and household hazardous waste are not acceptable in garbage
• Ensure ashes and coals are "cold". Please allow ashes and coals to sit for a two (2) week period before bringing to a waste facility. Advise site attendant upon arrival that you are bringing cold ashes
