Morry Guttman has been in the construction and construction management industry for over 40 years. Together with his business partner, Peter Zion, they started Greystone Housing and purchased a property in Rockwood in 2020. According to Morry, he oversaw planning and financing while Peter was in charge of construction.

“ The programme is valuable and I’m glad that we were able to be a part of the programme…”

“Our timing for the purchase of the building couldn’t have been worse!” Morry recalled, “We needed a minor variance to convert the basement space. The process was quick, and then March 2020 everything shut down. We haven’t even processed the permit for building as the township offices closed. We couldn’t get anything done for a number of months. We were sitting in a piece of property we couldn’t do anything with.” The residential building was completed in 2022, a year later than planned.

When asked how the programme helped with his project, Morry responded with “[the grant] was important to us. Anything helped with increased cost and Covid pricing.” He added that “It was good to be recognized and that what we were doing was valued and appreciated in the town of Rockwood. As of the interview, he was happy to report that the building is currently fully tenanted and is now looking for another property.

When asked if he would like to share any thoughts or insights, Morry shared that “The programme is valuable and I’m glad that we were able to be a part of the programme and contribute to the township, specifically Rockwood, in an otherwise irrelevant property.”
