The Study

The Rothsay Bridge (No. B007019) consists of a single 18.3 m span steel pony truss structure with a concrete deck over the Mallet River. The bridge has a deck width of 8.3 m and was constructed circa 1952. The bridge is located on Wellington Road 7, approximately 300 m West of Wellington Road 10 in the Township of Mapleton. The study area extends approximately 0.5 km on either side of the bridge. In general, the structure is approaching the end of it’s originally intended
service life. As part of a bridge inspection conducted in 2025, the Rothsay Bridge, was found to be in fair to poor condition with major elements showing signs of significant deterioration. GFT has been retained by the County of Wellington to complete a Study to address these items.

The Process

In accordance with the requirements for Schedule B projects of the Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (as amended in 2015 & 2023). The Study will confirm and document the existing structural deficiencies and identify alternative solutions, including rehabilitation or replacement of the bridge, and evaluate associated environmental impacts.

Public Engagement and Consultation

A key component of the study will be consultation with interested stakeholders including public, agencies and Indigenous communities. We want to ensure that anyone with an interest in this study has the opportunity to provide input and feedback.
