Aboyne, Ont. – The Wellington County Museum and Archives (WCMA) is opening the doors to some of the most intriguing stories found in its collections with the launch of a new Archives Speaker Series this fall.
The four-part series brings local experts to the WCMA to share the surprising discoveries, untold stories, and fascinating perspectives that have come from the work of preserving and exploring Wellington County’s history.
From the stories uncovered through decades of historical research to the challenges of preserving family heirlooms and the clues captured in century-old photographs, the series offers a behind-the-scenes look at the discoveries that can emerge from archives and museum collections.
The Archives Speaker Series launches on Sunday, September 20, with four presentations taking place throughout the fall:

Storing and Caring for Your Family Heirlooms
Speaker: Emily Benedict - Sunday, November 15 | 2:00 p.m.
Canvassing the County: Wellington Through the Lens of an Itinerant Photographer
Speaker: Elysia DeLaurentis
All presentations take place in the Reading Room of the Wellington County Museum and
Archives. Admission is by donation, and no registration is required.
“We’re excited to invite the community to come and hear some of the stories that emerge
through the work of preserving our history,” commented Karen Wagner, the WCMA’s Archivist.
“Archives and museum collections can hold remarkable surprises, and this series is a chance to
share some of those discoveries with the public.”
The Archives Speaker Series reflects the WCMA’s ongoing work to preserve Wellington County’s
history and make its collections accessible to the community.
