Guelph, Ont. – At today’s County Council meeting, it was announced that the County of Wellington will grant Kindle Communities Organization funding to support a 6-unit affordable housing project located 10 Shelldale Crescent in the City of Guelph.
The County is the Service System Manager for all social services in both the City of Guelph and Wellington County.
On May 26, 2026, the County of Wellington received a funding announcement and dedicated up to $2 million dollars to support the development of affordable housing.
The funding sources for the project are embargoed at this time.
In July, Housing Services staff released a Request for Proposals (RFP) to community partners and local municipalities interested in developing new deeply affordable rental housing units (below 80% of Canda Mortgage and Housing Corporation’s average market rent). The RFP closed on July 31, 2026, and Housing Services received six proposals for the development of deeply affordable housing within Wellington County and the City of Guelph.
Pursuant to the recommendation of the Joint Social Services and Land Ambulance Committee, comprised of members of the City and County Council, Wellington County Council approved up to $2 million dollars to Kindle Communities Organization to support the development of 6 affordable housing units located at 10 Shelldale Crescent in Guelph, ON, to the satisfaction of the Social Services Administrator and County Solicitor.
The funding programme guidelines require that approved projects be in position to sign a Contribution Agreement no later than December 15, 2026, and begin construction within 120 days of this date.
“This $2 million dollar investment in affordable housing will help fill a critical housing gap in our service delivery area,” said Dave Purdy, Director of Housing Services. “The County looks forward to publicly announcing the funding sources at the appropriate time.”
