Best Baa Dairy

Best Baa Diary won the Premier's Award for Agri-Food Innovation Excellence in 2015 for their work with local Amish farmers. Eric and Elisabeth had to come up with a solution to cooling the sheep milk without the use of electricity to abide by Amish traditions.

The cheese maker equipped a 240-litre stainless steel tank with a small engine to drive a standard refrigeration compressor. Best Baa built a second one, and then three more that used solar panels instead of a gasoline engine. Today, Best Baa gets great sheep milk, Amish farmers can adhere to their traditions, and the new off-the-grid technology can be used anywhere that farmers don't have access to electricity.

Ewenity is a co-operative of Ontario farmers who milk their sheep. Milk is then crafted into delicious sheep milk products including feta and ricotta cheeses, milk, kefir, and yogurt at the Best Baa Dairy in Fergus, Ontario.

The Best Baa Farm evolved from a gain farm in Manitoba to a sheep dairy farm producing cheese, yogurt, milk, ice cream and sour cream from sheep milk comparable to European quality products right here in Conn, Ontario.

Must Taste Item: Maple sheep yogurt. Made with sheep’s milk and bacterial culture, our Maple Yogurt has one additional ingredient: Pure Ontario Maple Syrup!
