ABOYNE, ON– Today, Wellington County Museum and Archives (WCMA) welcomed the community to the official ribbon cutting and opening of the new playground, located next to the Heritage Barn.
The design for the playground incorporates ideas from the project team, which includes staff from the Wellington Place Child Care Centre and the Museum, as well as those from local children and youth.
“We would like to thank the many children that provided their drawings for what the playground should look like, we built this space for you, so thank you for all your input and suggestions,” said Warden Andy Lennox.
The theme of agriculture is integrated to ensure the playground reflects the look and character of the former Poor House Industrial Farm. WCMA is oldest remaining rural Poor House in Canada and a National Historic Site.
“The County recognizes the value in inspiring children and providing a dynamic space where kids feel inspired to learn about past, present and future, and this playground is one more addition to that experience,” commented Mary Lloyd, Information, Heritage and Seniors Committee Chair.
The playground is now open for all to enjoy at the WCMA, located on Wellington Road 18, between Fergus and Elora.
