Wellington County, Ont. - The County of Wellington Engineering Services Department, which consists of Roads and Solid Waste Services, celebrated National Public Works Week (NPWW) May 21-27.
This year’s theme was “Connecting the World Through Public Works.” Staff in the County’s Engineering Services Department provide essential services and programmes to Wellington County residents every day.
Staff participated and were recognized through many events and educational activities during the week, including:
- a tour of the Riverstown Landfill and Waste Facility for students from Wellington Heights Secondary School
- County staff adopted a section of Wellington Road 18 and approximately 50 volunteers cleaned up 140 kg of litter
- Roads Division staff visited all four County childcare centres where the children got up close at a Touch-a-Truck event
- Two classrooms at the Erin Public School learned about waste management and diversion in the County through classroom presentations
- Two public workshops at the Wellington County Library Fergus and Hillburgh Branches on managing organics at home through backyard composting and the green bin programme.
"We were thrilled to participate in National Public Works Week and proudly showcase the hard work our staff do day in and day out that positively impacts our community,” said Don Kudo, County Engineer.
