Aboyne, Ont. – To commemorate Remembrance Day, the front lawn of the Wellington County Museum and Archives (WCMA) proudly displays more than 500 memorial markers; each bears a name, honouring Wellington County’s fallen from the First World War, the Second World War, Korea, and Afghanistan.
Two remembrance events will be held at WCMA in November:
- On November 5, beginning at 10:30 am, Royal Canadian Legion Members will read the names of each of the fallen from Wellington County at the Remembrance Ceremony. The ceremony will take place outdoors on the front lawn of the Wellington County Museum and Archives, until 11:30 am, followed by a reception with light refreshments until 12:30 pm.
- On November 10, beginning at 5:30 pm, a remembrance candle will be placed at each memorial marker as a tribute to the fallen from Wellington County. Candles will remain lit until November 12, burning throughout Remembrance Day on November 11.
“We hope to see our community come together once again to share in this important and meaningful pause,” said Museum Programming Supervisor, Katie Clarke. “It’s a time to remember, reflect, and honour the fallen from Wellington County and beyond.”
