Wellington County, Ont. - At today’s County Council meeting, Warden Lennox announced the recipients of the 2024 Luella Logan Scholarship and Luella Logan Award for Outstanding Service by a Woman in Politics.
The Luella Logan Scholarship will grant $1,500 annually to a young woman pursuing post-secondary studies in political science, public administration, or a related undergraduate or graduate degree at a Canadian college or university. Selection of the scholarship recipient will be based on academic excellence and demonstration of leadership and interest in local government.
Wellington County Council is pleased to present, on behalf of the Logan Family, the sixth annual Luella Logan Scholarship Award to:
EDEN McQUEEN
“On behalf of County Council, I would like to congratulate Eden McQueen on receiving the 2024 Luella Logan Scholarship,” said Warden Andy Lennox. “Eden already has an impressive political resumé and we all look forward to her future political contributions.”
Eden is currently studying toward a degree in Political Science Specialization in Public Law and Judicial Studies at McMaster University.
The annual Luella Logan Award for Outstanding Service by a Woman in Politics is presented to a female politician who has shown outstanding service in local politics with the County of Wellington, or one of the County’s member municipalities. The recipient will receive a donation of $1,500 to allocate to the charity of her choice.
The award is funded through a generous donation the County received from Mr. Robert Logan in recognition of his late wife, the first female councillor to sit on Wellington County Council, Luella “Lou” Logan.
The 2024 recipient of the Luella Logan Award for Outstanding Service by a Woman in Politics is Past Warden, Catherine Keleher. Ms. Keleher began her political career in 1982 when she was elected to sit on Palmerston Council. She later went on to sit on Wellington County Council from 1986 to 1999. Ms. Keleher was elected as Warden in 1994 and became the second woman in Wellington County history to hold this seat.
Ms. Keleher has chosen The Community Foundation of Grey-Bruce for her charity of choice. The Community Foundation of Grey-Bruce encourages endowment building and facilitates philanthropic partnerships within all communities in Grey and Bruce, now and for future generations. Community Foundation Grey Bruce supports Grey Bruce residents through grants to community projects by nonprofit organizations and scholarships, bursaries or awards to students. Community Foundation Grey Bruce provides leadership in identifying community issues and convening discussion.
“On behalf of County Council, I would like to congratulate Past Warden Catherine Keleher on receiving 2024 Luella Logan Award for Outstanding Service by a Woman in Politics Award,” said Warden Andy Lennox. “Luella Logan contributed so much to the County during her political career. This annual award is a wonderful way to honour her legacy.”
