The County owns and operates three trails at Wellington Place between Fergus and Elora (Trestle Bridge, Aboyne and Museum trails) and also helps operate the Kissing Bridge Trailway sections in Guelph/Eramosa and Mapleton.
The Kissing Bridge Trailway
The Kissing Bridge Trailway is part of the Trans Canada Trail. It is operated through a partnership between the County, the Region of Waterloo and groups who maintain sections of the trail. To raise funds for two major bridges needed to complete the trail, an annual "Spring on the Trail" event is held on the second Saturday of May. You can find out more about participating, volunteering or contributing to this event at http://www.springonthetrail.ca There is also a website for the trailway which can be found at http://www.kissingbridgetrailway.ca.
Cottontail Road Trail
The Elora Cataract Trail currently connects Wellington County from Elora east towards Halton Region. A new Trans Canada Trail route in Centre Wellington will close the gap between Elora and the Kissing Bridge Trailway in Waterloo Region to the west.
Trestle Bridge Trail
The Trestle Bridge Trail is a 4 km trail in the Township of Centre Wellington, 2 km of which is owned and operated by the County of Wellington. This trail provides a connection between Fergus and Elora. With support through the Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program/Avec l'appui du Programme d'infrastructure communautaire de Canada 150, the current rehabilitation project includes two bridges on the trail. The construction work on both of the bridges will address structural issues in order to prevent more serious and costly problems in the future and to protect public safety.
