Elora, Ont. – The County of Wellington held an official grand opening ceremony at the Elora Waste Facility today, celebrating the completion of major site upgrades that improve safety, efficiency, and service for residents.
The facility re-opened to the public in February, following an eleventh-month closure. The official public grand opening was planned to coincide with National Public Works Week, which recognizes staff in the Engineering Department who provide essential services and programmes to Wellington County residents every day.
“The completion of the Elora Waste Facility project reflects the importance of investing in infrastructure that serves our community every day,” said Stephen O’Neill, Solid Waste Services Committee Chair. “By improving how materials are handled and increasing our capacity for diversion, we are helping extend the life of our landfill and enhance service for residents.”
The site improvements include:
- An expanded drop-off area for improved unloading and traffic management
- Scale house construction with installation of dual scales
- Replacement of the retaining wall and Household Hazardous Waste building
- Paving and concrete works
- Additional areas established for the placement and storage of waste diversion materials
As the County’s busiest waste facility, these upgrades help ensure the site can continue to meet growing demand while supporting environmental sustainability.
Residents can visit the upgraded facility during regular operating hours. For site hours and waste service information, visit www.wellington.ca/waste-facilities.
