Wellington County Celebrates 2024 National Public Works Week


Wellington County, Ont.- The County of Wellington Engineering Services Department, which consists of Roads and Solid Waste Services, celebrated 2024 National Public Works Week (NPWW) May 19-25. This year’s theme was “Advancing Quality of Life for All.”

Staff in the County’s Engineering Services Department provide essential services and programmes to Wellington County residents every day. Staff participated and were recognized through many events and educational activities during the week, including:

  • Solid Waste Services set up a booth the Elora Farmers’ Market
  • County employees adopted a road and cleaned up 154 lbs of garbage on Wellington Road 18
  • Compost Workshops at the Aboyne and Mount Forest libraries on managing organics at home through backyard composting and the green bin programme
  • Roads employees hosted Touch a Truck events at the County Child Care and Learning Centre and Wellington Terrace Long Term Care Home providing young children and residents the opportunity to get up and close with snow plow trucks and equipment
  • Solid Waste Services employees made presentations at Victoria Cross Public School in Mount Forest and educated students about waste management and diversion
  • Roads employees planted a living snow fence on Wellington Road 7

"National Public Works Week is dedicated to educating, engaging and informing the residents we serve about the essential role Engineering Services employees play in our quality of life,” said Don Kudo, County Engineer. “I am incredibly proud of the work that we do everyday and the substantial contributions our teams make to protect our health and safety while focusing on improving our services and infrastructure.”
