Wellington County Celebrates 2025 National Public Works Week

Wellington County, Ont. - The County of Wellington Engineering Services Department, which includes Roads and Solid Waste Services, proudly celebrated the 2025 National Public Works Week (NPWW) May 18-24. This year’s theme was “People, Purpose, Presence” honoured the dedication, mission, and impact of public works professionals in communities across Canada.

Throughout last week, County staff engaged in a variety of events aimed at building public awareness, educating residents, and celebrating the essential services delivered by the Engineering Services Department. Highlights from the week included:

  • Adopt-a-Road Roadside Cleanup: County employees teamed up with the Engineering Services Department to remove litter on Wellington Road 18, collecting over 170 lbs of waste.
  • Pollinator Garden Tour: Grade 5 students took a tour of a pollinator garden led by County staff and learned about sustainable land management practices.
  • Arthur Garage Grand Opening: The new Roads facility officially opened in Arthur, offering improved support for road maintenance operations in the northern part of the County.
  • Community Talks at Elora and Hillsburgh Libraries: Solid Waste Services staff hosted public presentations titled “What’s Going Right in the World of Waste Resources?” which focused on optimistic global and local waste solutions.
  • Touch-a-Truck Event: Children at County Child Care Centres were invited to explore Roads equipment and learn how it supports daily life in the County.

“National Public Works Week is an opportunity to highlight the often behind-the-scenes work that our staff provide to the people of Wellington County,” said Don Kudo, County Engineer. “From maintaining safe roads to managing waste responsibly, our teams bring purpose and presence to their work every single day. I’m proud of our team and the lasting impact they have on our communities.”
