Police Services

The Community Response Unit (CRU) focuses on community-based issues, youth directives, and community engagement and mobilization. 

CRU utilizes proactive engagement and enforcement as well as attendance at community events to create working partnerships with community stakeholders.

The Youth Resiliency Officer (YRO) focuses on community collaboration to support vulnerable youth with harm reduction strategies. The YRO collaborates with community partners, school boards and youth facilities to deliver specific and targeted educational sessions focusing on rapport-building with an emphasis on abuse issues, addictions, mental health/wellness, coping mechanisms, self-worth, community supports, and human trafficking.  The YRO is also responsible for over-seeing and organizing the Youth Advisory Committee.

The current Youth Resiliency Officer is PC Sarah McClinchey.

The Traffic Management Unit (TMU) is dedicated to promoting safety on the County of Wellington roadways, waterways, and ATV and snowmobile trails by conducting extensive proactive patrols utilizing education and enforcement. 

The TMU also participates in Provincial, Detachment and Regional traffic-related safety campaigns.

Officers with the Media/Community Services Unit partner with local organizations and community stakeholders to promote crime prevention, community safety and wellbeing through the delivery of presentations, attendance at community events and via social media platforms.  Officers with this unit also prepare and post media releases and respond to media requests.  

The current media officers are Cst Matthew Burton and Carly McKeown.

Every OPP Detachment across the province has an Action Plan to guide detachment operations and ensure community safety. The plans are designed to identify local crime and traffic priorities. Once priorities are identified, specific activities are established to promote community engagement, increase public education and concentrate enforcement efforts.

Wellington County Action Plan

The Wellington County OPP Detachment Board (WCOPPDB) is a five-member civilian body that oversees the Wellington County OPP.  The WCOPPDB annually reviews and approves the operating budget for policing in the County for a population base of over 106,390 residents.
